Shoulder specialist: Arthroscopy
Shoulder arthroscopy is a surgical procedure focused on investigating, identifying, and correcting any damage found in the tissues, muscles, or joints within the shoulder. This minimally invasive surgery is performed using a special instrument called an arthroscope, which allows for internal observation and repair of the joint in a much less invasive and more efficient way than traditional open surgery.
SHOULDER SURGERIES
Shoulders and hips are considered the most flexible joints in the human body. Constant or excessive use and traumatic injuries are usually the main causes of shoulder injuries. Shoulder surgery aims to repair the damage in this area and restore the patient’s original mobility.
There are two ways to surgically treat these injuries:
ARTHROSCOPY
This method is widely recommended as it requires only a few small incisions around the joint, which serve as access points for the arthroscope. Through these openings, the surgeon can inspect and repair the damaged tissue, addressing shoulder problems. Arthroscopy has the advantage of significantly reducing the amount of affected tissue during the procedure, resulting in less joint inflammation and faster recovery time.
OPEN SURGERY
Open repair surgery is necessary in cases of large tears, complications, or when more extensive reconstruction is required. It is important to undergo this surgery with a qualified orthopedic specialist.
Shoulder injuries
The shoulder is held in place by the muscles, ligaments, and tendons surrounding it, and being the most mobile joint in the body, it is prone to frequent injuries. Some of the shoulder injuries that most commonly affect this area include:
- Dislocations.
- Sprains.
- Strains.
- Tears.
- Tendonitis.
- Bursitis.
- Rotator cuff tear.
- Frozen shoulder.
- Fractures.
- Arthritis.
