Activities at home to do with the little ones during quarantine
Seeing my siblings how they manage with their children to keep them busy or distracted during this period of quarantine at home, the idea of writing this article has come to me, I am already sure that all parents with young children are in the same situation.
So, with this premise and an internet search, I write this article to give parents some ideas on what to do to distract their children at home.
We are clear that these times of quarantine it is difficult to keep the little ones in the house busy. It is likely that you need time to do housework or to do your home office or telework, but you do not know how to entertain your children to achieve your daily activities. It is a real challenge, but if you organize yourself we are sure that you will be able to enjoy these moments and develop creativity and great learning in them. Here are some ideas I collected for activities and plans to do at home during this quarantine.
Cooking as a family
Cooking is ideal for spending time and sharing with the family. The little ones in the house are passionate about preparing meals, playing at being cooks and inventing recipes of all kinds, while they develop various aspects such as: teamwork, communication, autonomy and fine motor skills. You can opt for easy recipes, make cookies in the shape of animals or look for tutorials on youtube. And most importantly, you will have the meal of the day ready!
Crafts
It’s time to encourage creativity in a fun way!
Crafts are one of the favorite activities of the little ones, from making a cardboard house, letters for loved ones (to grandparents who can’t see), free drawing, collage, inventing a story, making dolls or any idea you can think of. Remember that you do not need large materials, you can even use those that are recycled such as toilet paper rolls or paper towels, plastic bottles that you no longer use. Take the opportunity to develop your creativity and that of your children with incredible crafts.
Table Games
For the most part, board games are a tool that not only entertains and provides hours of fun for the little ones, but also enhances their motor and cognitive skills. Options like Monopoly, Scrabble, Life, India, Jenga will be able to get you out of trouble for those moments of boredom. In case you don’t have a board game, remember that you can download boards and print them at home or you can download board game applications.
Virtual museum tours for kids
You can also take advantage of these days for your children to learn about culture and other topics. Several world-renowned museums offer the opportunity to tour them through virtual tours. Children and their parents can enter the Google Arts & Culture website and thus get to know more than 1200 museums: Van Gogh, MOMA, Georgia O’Keeffe, Palace of Versailles, Botero, among others. Likewise, due to this quarantine period, animals from different zoos can be seen through webcams, just by entering their websites.
Scavenger hunt
Turning them into little explorers for a moment is a great idea. Prepare a treasure hunt at home in a game that children love. Hide an object and leave clues in different parts of the house to help your little explorer find its treasure. If you want this game to last longer, add challenges in each of the clues so that they can find the treasure.
Just like these, there are thousands of ideas for activities to do at home with your children.
Opt for tutorials on youtube of recreational activities, directed reading, or even language or skills classes and workshops. We know that it is much easier for them to be watching TV or with electronic devices, but let’s take advantage of these days to do different activities, learn new things and have a “routine” inside the house.
